Authorities are reporting seven deaths
related to Hurricane Gustav, including four people fleeing the
storm who were killed in Georgia when their car struck a tree.
Georgia State Patrol Trooper Larry Schnall says the car struck a
tree around 10 p.m. Sunday night. He says the car's driver may have
fallen asleep.
The car was carrying six passengers from Marrero, La., just
south of New Orleans. The victims were identified as 27-year-old Derek Bryant,
33-year-old Lynika Kennard, 2-year-old Derk Kennard and 45-year-old
Gyrone Hudson.
Schnall said the two survivors - 45-year-old Tyrone Hudson and
16-year-old Johnika Batiste - were seriously injured.
Authorities also say a couple in their 70s died when a tree
struck their relatives' home in Baton Rouge. Another woman died in
an accident driving between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
