Alabama And GM Join Forces For Use Of Ethanol

Alabama and nine other states will join with General Motors to promote the development and use of Ethanol. Governor Bob Riley announced the initiative Wednesday morning.

Governor Riley said GM will provide technical assistance to Alabama and the other nine states to determine new locations for ethanol fuel stations and optimize the E-85 supply by working with ethanol producers, the GM network of dealerships, plants and offices to promote E-85 usage. The plan also calls for identifying funding resources for pump installation or conversion.

E-85 is 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. In 2007, the USA used 6.8 billion gallons of E-85, produced from corn grown here in this country.

There are nearly 7 million Flex Fuel vehicles---those that can use either gas or E-85---on the road today. More than one million FFVs were produced in 2007.
