DEVELOPING NEWS: A Deal May Be Close for Jefferson County Sewer

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A deal may be on the table today, that would allow Jefferson County to pay its sewer debt and avoid bankruptcy.
According to commissioners, the deal would include a reduction in the debt by $1 billion in exchange for the 1 cent sales tax for school construction remaining in place long enough to pay the sewer debt.
In addition, the Governor has formally asked the federal government for help from the $700 billion bailout package. If that is approved, the overall debt could be reduced even more.
