Alabama Quad desolate in rain, but not empty

TUSCALOOSA, Ala-- The rain apparently drove everyone off the Alabama quad the night before the biggest game of the season.

Well, almost everybody.

In the midst of all the empty tents, there was one lone group of revelers.

They were Auburn and Alabama fans dancing the night away together.

It wasn’t Israelis and Palestinians, but it was significant none-the-less.

“It’s been 5 years running, I love every one of them, it’s awesome to come out here every other year and hang out with them,” Auburn fan Jonathan Bobicz said about his Alabama party pals.

For some, the memories of the iron bowl clashes will last a lifetime, but nights like these are a close second.

“These are the people that matter, everybody’s gonna be there tomorrow but tonight this is what matters,” Alabama fan Wayne James said.

So why all the no-shows on the quad on one of the biggest party nights of the year?

Rain stopped everyone else, but it couldn’t stop this intrepid group.

“You gotta make the best of it, it’s all about college football, and you gotta roll with it. Good weather, bad weather, you just gotta have fun,” Bobicz said.

The dancing and partying, they’re all in agreement; but come game time, they’ll be sworn enemies once more.

“We’ve been dealing with pressure all year long, so this game is no different than any else,” James said.

“We’re going for number seven and our bid for a bowl game. It’s going to happen,” Bobicz said. “Coach Tuberville will tell the team to leave it on the field, and it will happen.”

As they danced, the lone Alabama and Auburn fans on the quad seemed to enjoy the fact that game time was still a good 16 hours away.
