Federal government indicts Alabaster woman

BIRMINGHAM, AL United States Attorney Alice H. Martin of the Northern District of Alabama and Roy D. Sexton, Special Agent in Charge, U.S. Secret Service announced today that RAMONA MOORE has been indicted by a federal grand jury for defrauding the U.S. Veteran’s Administration.
RAMONA MOORE, 48, of Alabaster, AL. was charged in a two-count indictment filed today at U. S. District Court in Birmingham.
Count One charges that from January 3, 2005 to March 1, 2007, Moore stole approximately $30, 346.00 by cashing checks belonging to the U.S. Veterans Affairs Retirement Survivor’s Insurance Programs.
Count Two charges KELLY with forfeiture of $30, 346.00. The maximum penalty for Count One is 10 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine or both.
“This office will prosecute program defrauders to the fullest extent of the law”, stated U.S. Attorney Alice H. Martin.
The case was investigated by Special. Agents of the United States Secret Service and Assistant United States Attorney Frank M. Salter is prosecuting this case on behalf of the United States.
Members of the public are reminded that the indictment contains only charges. A defendant is presumed innocent of the charges, and it will be the government’s burden to prove a defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
