BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The federal arraignment for former Jefferson County Commissioner and Birmingham City Councilor John Katopodis has been set.
Katopodis is scheduled to appear in a Birmingham federal courtroom on November 13 at 9:30 a.m. following last week's fraud indictment against him.
He is accused of using $250,000 of money given to a children's computer charity on himself and friends.
Katopodis, now Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford and HealthSouth founder Richard Scrushy established Computer Help for Kids back in 2000.
It was designed to give refurbished computers to underprivileged children in the Jefferson County community.
The Jefferson County Commission gave the charity $815,000 over a number of years.
The 98 count indictment accuses Katopodis of spending part of the $250,000 at casino's and on trips to places like Egypt and the Bahamas.
