The Day Ahead- Friday, May 23, 2008:
-The Birmingham Fire Department will be holding boot drives to raise money for MDA. The goal is to fill their boots with donations. Firefighters will be at the following locations from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.: Wal-Mart on Roebuck Parkway, Wal-Mart in Eastwood, Piggly Wiggly in West End, and the Kangaroo Gas Station on Tallapoosa Street.
-Today Birmingham City Councilor Roderick Royal, District 9, promotes bicycle safety at the annual Bicycle Rodeo. Certified Bicycle Patrol Officers will teach students the rules of safety on two wheels. Plus a boy and a girl from each school will receive a bicycle, helmet, knee and elbow pads. The Bicycle Rodeo will be held throughout the day today at the following schools: Wylam Elementary School 8:30 a.m. (Councilor Royal scheduled to speak), South Hampton Elementary School 10:00 a.m., Lewis Elementary School 11:30 a.m., North Birmingham Elementary School 1:00 p.m., Council Elementary School 2:15 p.m.
-The Alabama Blues Project will be celebrating its 10th Annual Blues Camp with an Open House Blues Extravaganza at the Bama Theatre in downtown Tuscaloosa tonight from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The after-school Blues Camp brings Alabama's rich blues heritage to the next generation of budding musicians and combines hands-on music instruction with a life-skills curriculum and blues music history. This year, over 50 Blues Camp students will be performing as a unique blues orchestra, followed by a performance from ten of the camp's most advanced students.
