This graduation season, many of Alabama's high school seniors have reason to celebrate, thanks to changes in the exit exam requirements. Britany Henry, an A/B honor roll student was one of them. She had trouble passing the Social Studies part.
Britany Henry/Graduating Senior said, "I took the Social Studies part like 4 or 5 times. I missed it by 20. December, took it again, missed it by 7 or 8"
The last time Britany took it, she failed by one point. She admitted - it was tough.
Britany said, "It's a lot of dates. It's about old presidents, when they are presidents and all the wars, timelines, like Daniel said, bunch of old stuff that's hard to remember. If you don't study, it's hard remember a lot of that stuff."
But today - Britany - earned her diploma. She's grateful - the State Board of Education passed exit exam requirements, allowing students to still earn their diplomas, if they pass at least three of the five parts. Now she's headed to Wallace State to study nursing. And today - is truly one of the best days of her life.
Britany said, "No worries today, I'm walking across that stage, with my diploma so i'm excited.">
A total of eight students walked across the stage and received their diplomas at Gardendale First Baptist Church thanks to the exit exam changes. Changes to the exit exam requirements helped 70 Jefferson County School District students earn their high school diplomas this week.
