MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Gov. Bob Riley plans to announce Friday when he will call the Alabama Legislature back into special session to reconsider the state education budget.
The Alabama Legislature ended its 2008 regular session Monday night with the Senate failing to approve an education budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Riley says he wants the lawmakers to return to Montgomery quickly and pass a budget that will allow school officials to plan for the fall.
Only one budget will be pending in the special session. The Legislature approved the state's General Fund budget for non-education agencies.
