The Day Ahead- Thursday, May 22, 2008:
-Cub Scout Pack 216 of Trussville, AL is scheduled to hold their 3rd annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Jefferson Memorial Gardens off of Highway 11 in Trussville today. The ceremony will begin at 8am with an opening prayer, the pledge, "What a Veteran Means to Me" poem reading, and then Acknowledgement of Jefferson Memorial Placement of 2800 Flags on Veterans' graves. All branches of service are invited to come out in uniform to be honored and/or assist these scouts in placing the flags on fallen soldiers or other military service men and women's graves.
-The Southern Legends Charity Classic golf tournament, coordinated by former Auburn kicker and NFL great, Al Del Greco, and benefiting Magic Moments will take place today at FarmLinks in Sylacauga. The tournament begins at 10:00. Former athletes from Alabama and Auburn will be participating in the tournament.
-The Jefferson County Board of Education meets today at 10:00.
-The Jefferson County Commission meets today at 10:00.
-Members of the Alabama Army National Guard's Company C, 1st Battalion 167th Infantry (Mech) will return to Cullman on Thursday after spending more than nine months in Iraq. The unit left Iraq earlier this week and unit members have been undergoing out-processing activities at Camp Shelby, Miss. They will travel by charter bus from Camp Shelby to Cullman on Thursday morning. A Welcome Home ceremony is scheduled for the 160-member unit today at 1:00 p.m. at the Cullman County Fairground located adjacent to Sportsman Park off U.S. Hwy 31 North.
