Power Restored At Alabama Statehouse

»  Comments | Post a Comment

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- The power is back on at the Alabama Statehouse in Montgomery.

A spokesman for the Alabama House of Representatives, Clay Redden, said the power went out about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. Redden said Alabama Power reported a squirrel got in a transformer. The power was restored to the building shortly before noon.

The Statehouse used emergency lights Wednesday morning. Employees were able to answer the phones but computers were not working.

The power outage could have been worse. On Monday, the Statehouse was packed with people for the final day of the Legislature's 2008 session. But it was much quieter Wednesday with the lawmakers back at home.
