Movie Gallery Inc. has named C.J. Gabriel Jr. to succeed company founder Joe Malugen as CEO of the company.
Gabriel will lead the company as it seeks to rebuild its fortunes after emerging from bankruptcy protection. Gabriel, a former executive vice president of marketing, merchandising and supply chain management for Albertsons Inc., helped restructure that $50 billion retailer's operations to allow it to save millions and become an industry leader, according to a Movie Gallery press release.
"Gabe is a highly-experienced and proven executive with the right qualities -- inspirational leadership, strategic insight and operational discipline -- to lead Movie Gallery forward," Malugen said in the release. "Gabe knows what it takes to run a successful retail business and understands what actions can be taken in today's rapidly evolving video rental industry. Movie Gallery is emerging from bankruptcy with a talented new leader committed to meeting the needs of our customers, employees and other stakeholders. I am confident in Gab's ability to return the company to profitability."
Prior to his tenure at Albertsons, Gabriel served as CEO of Newgistics Inc. and before that served as CEO of Corporate Express. Gabriel also has military experience, having served as a U.S. Army officer.
