RED LEVEL, Ala. (AP) -- Authorities say a possible tornado left damage scattered across a south Alabama county.

Covington County emergency management director Kristi Stamnes says a storm hit the Red Level community around noon Thursday, severely damaging three homes and an old fire station. None of the buildings was occupied, and no one was hurt.

Stamnes says the damage appears to be from a tornado, but the weather service will visit on Friday to assess the scene.

Elsewhere, heavy rains have drenched parts of Alabama. As much as 3.5 inches fell through mid-afternoon in west Alabama, where the weather service issued a flood warning.
