The Jefferson County Commission has secured a two-week extension for the payment of a $53 million sewer debt payment.
It’s the latest in a series of extension as the county looks to restructure its debts and secure manageable future payments.
Negotiations to reset the debt structure are ongoing between Jefferson County attorneys and creditor from Wall Street in New York.
The new payment date for the $53 million is set for June 1.
