Decline in Mother's Day Spending

»  Comments | Post a Comment

BIRMINGHAM, Ala-- The cost of gas has people cutting back even when it comes to mother's day gifts. According to AAA, a gallon of regular gas now averages $3.59 in Alabama, which is an average of 77 cents higher than it was this time last year. Businesses like flowers shops have raised prices, so mom's gift may be a little different this year. At Dorothy McDaniel Flowers in Homewood, you are paying about 5 cents extra for every flower compared to this time last year. Because of high gas prices Dorothy McDaniel has raised delivery prices 20% in the last quarter, which means some mothers will get their bouquets hand delivered.
