HOMEWOOD, Ala. --- Samford University officials say their campus safety officer made up a story about a gunman on campus that prompted a two hour lockdown.
Around 5:30 A.M. Friday the officer claimed he confronted a gunman at a campus parking deck.
He said the suspect then fled.
Homewood Police searched Samford's campus for the reported gunman but declared the area safe two hours later.
Late Friday afternoon Samford University announced the officer had recounted his story.
University President Dr. Andrew Westmoreland said in a statement, "Appropriate disciplinary measures are being taken."
Homewood Police say no criminal charges are being filed against the officer at this point.
