BRIGHTON, Ala. (AP) -- The city of Brighton is turning to the public for help in solving a string of vacant house fires.
The latest blaze erupted early today on Patton Avenue. The fire grew so large that Brighton's Fire Department had to call Birmingham firefighters for assistance.
Brighton Fire Chief Alfred Cooper said today's fire marked the 96th vacant house fire in the past year. He's asking citizens not be afraid to report anything they see or hear because there is a reward for information.
Cooper is also asking off-duty firefighters to be vigilant when they ride through the area.
