LEEDS, Ala. -- Leeds Police are investigating their first murder case in five years.
The double homicide happened at the Cedar Grove Apartments in northwest Leeds early Thursday morning.
Domeitha Dozier lives only feet from the Cedar Grove Apartments, where she said she heard a dozen gunshots fired last night.
“Sounded like it was different guns. So I just sit there, my blood pressure went up, my chest started hurting because I knew it was somebody, I just prayed it wasn't my nephew,” Dozier recalled.
Unfortunately, bullets instead claimed the life of her second cousin, 15-year-old Sergio Scott.
Scott was found shot in the Cedar Grove Apartments parking lot.
Another man, 43-year-old Kevin Connell, also suffered gunshot wounds.
Both later died at the hospital.
Dozier said despite constant patrols by police, she hears gunshots at least three times a week.
“It's innocent people who live there and they can't even walk out of their houses. Scared they might get shot and anything might jump off. A lot of them have done moved,” Dozier pointed out.
Clyde Jones moved after living in the Cedar Grove Apartments for four years and claimed last night's deadly violence was only a matter of time.
“No it doesn't surprise me at all, period. No I was looking for it that is why I moved. I thought it was bound to happen, the handwriting was on the wall,” Jones claimed.
Leeds Police are not releasing a motive in the crime and so far no arrests have been made in the case.
More details may be released as they become available. Please call Leeds Police at (205) 699-2581 if you have any information about the case.
