HOOVER, Ala--Dozens of residents are homeless after lightning struck their apartment building Wednesday night. Witnesses said lightning ripped through the roof of building 17 of the Colonial Grand at the Galleria. Fire officials are calling the blaze the result of an electrical storm. They got the call at 6:13 p.m. but it took more than two dozen firefighters over an hour to knock down the flames. Many scrambled to get pets to safety and salvage precious keepsakes but the building is destroyed along with countless memories. The Red Cross is helping the displaced. Ten units were destroyed and nearby buildings have substantial water damage.
