Birmingham Fire and Rescue crews were busy today dealing with a hazardous materials situation near a hotel.
It started about 2:00pm at the Marriott Hotel on Highway 280.
Hazardous materials and decontamination units were called out to take care of an unknown container with a substance inside.
A Birmingham Fire official tells NBC13HD News that someone dropped off the container at the hotel, saying someone else would come to pick it up.
The container had a foul smell to it, and hotel employees moved the container outside.
Crews were able to contain it, and take the substance to be tested.
A street was closed while crews were at the scene.
