PSC President Backs Cavanaugh In GOP Runoff

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- PSC President Jim Sullivan said he will back former Republican Party Chairman Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh in next month's Republican primary runoff for the seat he is vacating.

Sullivan, a Republican and longtime commission president, decided not to run for re-election this year. He told the Press-Register newspaper Tuesday that Cavanaugh is smart and "has good political skills."

Cavanaugh will face Matt Chancey, a 32-year-old marketing professional, in the July 15 runoff election. The Republican candidate will go on to face former Lt. Gov. Lucy Baxley in the general election.

The PSC president presides over the three-member commission, which regulates Alabama Power Co. and other utilities.
