WASHINGTON (AP) - Barack Obama will be able to count on the enthusiastic backing of Hillary Clinton as he faces off against John McCain for the presidency.
Clinton is telling supporters in an online message that she promised during her campaign that she would strongly support Obama if he were the nominee, "and I intend to deliver on that promise."
The New York senator is scheduled to make a speech today at the National Building Museum in Washington, formally ending her quest to become the first female president.
She says her speech will focus on "how together we can rally the party" behind Obama.
Nominee-in-waiting Obama plans to spend the weekend at home in Chicago.
