Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford wants officers to meet the people they serve.
It's called “Meet Your Neighbor.”
Under the program, officers will be required to meet ten residents every day.
To prove it's getting done, officers must turn in the names and phone numbers of people they meet.
The plan is getting mixed reviews.
Some police officers are concerned meeting a quota will interfere with fighting crime.
The mayor says the plan gets cops out of buildings and patrol cars and on the streets to build better relationships with the public.
The mayor added Chief A.C. Roper will make the ultimate decision, but at this point he has not submitted a proposal in writing.
