Legislative Panel Holds Up Emergency Management Contract

»  Comments | Post a Comment

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- The Legislature's Contract Review Committee has delayed a $273,000 contract to test the Alabama Emergency Management Agency's disaster plans.

The contract was delayed when two lawmakers expressed concern that EMA Director Brock Long used to work for a company getting some of the work.

State Sen. Del Marsh said he held up the contract because some of the work was to be done by Beck Disaster Recovery. That's the Florida-based company Long worked for before he took over as Alabama's EMA director in January.

Long said the contract was awarded using an independent process and he had nothing to do with deciding who would do the work.
