BIRMINGHAM, Ala--Birmingham police will have to go door to door if the mayor has his way. Mayor Larry Langford wants officers to meet the people they serve. It's called meet your neighbor. Under the program officers will be required to meet ten residents each day. To prove it's getting done they must turn in the names and phone numbers of people they meet. The plan is getting mixed reviews. Some police officers are concerned meeting a quota will interfere with fighting crime. Mayor Larry Langford said the plan gets cops out of buildings and patrol cars and on the streets to build better relationships with the public. Langord said building better relationships with the public will help solve and prevent crime. How effective will it be? Well that's still being debated. The mayor added Chief AC Roper has the ultimate decision. If enacted the mayor wants supervisors to call citizens randomly to make sure officers are actually meeting their neighbors.
