Birmingham’s Children’s Hospital has reported treating five venomous snake bites in the last three weeks.
The hospital’s regional poison control has answered close to three dozen calls related to snake bites since April first.
Experts at the Birmingham Zoo said Thursday that bites are more common in the summer months when snakes are out looking for food and water.
If you see a snake you should simply walk the other way the experts said, because snakes will not follow or attack you.
Anyone suffering a snake bite should seek out medical attention.
