The Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority says it won't offer cheap bus rides on bad air quality days this year.
In past years, BJCTA and its Metro Area Express offered 25 cent rides on days when air quality was at its worst. But this year, the grant that supplied the money for those cheap fairs is not available.
According to BJCTA officials that money was from a federal program to help spark new ridership for the system.
But the numbers showed few new riders took advantage of the offer and this year the BJCTA was not given money for that program.
