Prosecutors To Decide Whether to Charge Ala. Driver in Fatal Missouri Wreck

»  Comments | Post a Comment

TOWN AND COUNTRY, Mo. (AP) - It likely will be weeks before St.
Louis County prosecutors decide whether to file charges against an
Alabama truck driver who slammed into stopped traffic, causing a
massive pileup that killed three people and injured 15.
Meanwhile, the 11-vehicle accident that happened Tuesday on
Interstate 64 in suburban St. Louis has prompted one lawmaker to
propose a cell phone ban for drivers - even though investigators
have not said whether the truck driver was using a cell phone at
the time of the crash.
The wreck occurred during afternoon rush hour when a semi loaded
with scrap aluminum driven by 49-year-old Jeffrey Knight of Muscle
Shoals rammed into vehicles stopped for traffic.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol blamed "inattentive
driving," but authorities declined to be more specific. Troopers
said Knight had a clean driving record and wasn't drinking, on
drugs or asleep at the wheel.
