Fourth of July Block Party Tradition Ends

»  Comments | Post a Comment

BRIMINGHAM, Ala-- A 10-year tradition will fade with fireworks this Fourth of July. People on 85th Street in Eastlake celebrated their last Fourth of July block party Friday. The neighborhood is being bought out under Birmingham's airport acquisition program.

From the limbo to the Hawaiian lays, the fun on 85th Street was familiar. The families aren't related, but the homeowners say the group of families regularly party- and even pray together.

The airport has already sent home inspectors to evaluate the homes on 85th Street but there isn't a set date on when they'll be purchased. There will be informational meetings at the airport Thursday July 17th.

Concerned homeowners with questions can come to any of three meetings. They will be held at Terminal A at 9-11 am, 1-3:30 pm and 5:30-7:30. For more information call Sandi Schmidt at (205) 599- 0525.
