Central Alabama residents are flocking to local attractions on the Fourth of July, seeking fun at reduced costs amid record fuel prices and rising expenses.

10-thousand ticket buyers were expected to walk through the gates at Alabama Adventure on Independence day alone.

The state’s largest theme park is offering incentives and extended promotions to lure area residents looking to vacation close to home.

At Vulcan Park in Birmingham increased traffic was reported over the holiday as well.

Christine Lobo lives in Birmingham, and chose Vulcan Park over attractions outside the metro area.

“I wouldn't want to travel too far if the price of gas is too much. It’s as simple as that,” Lobo said.
