Video: Church installs GPS in nativity scene

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Glen Ellyn, Illinois Christians want to hold on to the babies in their mangers this Christmas season, so they're trying something new.

An Episcopal church in that suburb is installing GPS devices in each of the figurines in its 40-year-old nativity scene.

There is Joseph, Mary, Baby Jesus, one wise man, a camel, a donkey and a sheep.

There used to be a cow, but it was "borrowed" two years ago and hasn't been returned, says Rev. George Smith.

USA Today reported Friday that Smith and his congregation are not alone in their use of technology to protect seasonal displays.

BrickHouse Security in New York City offered churches and synagogues free GPS and cameras to protect their mangers and figurines.

Seventy have signed up so far.

About 24 of them are also installing security cameras.
