There are 700+ Hurricane Gustav evacuees at the Boutwell and hundreds of others at shelters across the city including the Alabama State Fairgrounds, the BJCC and beginning later tonight, the Bartow Arena. Included in the groups of evacuees are hundreds of children, many without clothes, shoes or toys.

If any member of the public wishes to make a donation of items that may be of use to the children of the storm, please drop those items off at the Mayor's Division of Youth Services, located at 808 18th Street North (next to Municipal Court).

The DYS staff will be on-hand later this evening until 8 p.m. and again tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to accept the donations. For more information, contact DYS Executive Director Cedric Sparks at 205-492-9793.
