BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- McCain's VP pick shocked just about everyone. So will the decision influence area voters?
Some analyst said McCain's VP choice was suppose to bring balance to the Republican ticket.
"She didn't bring to the ticket what I might have expected. There is an ideological balance she is very much like John McCain. She is also young, maybe too young," said political analyst Dr. Holly Brasher.
Palin, 44, is only the second woman picked for a spot on a major-party ticket. In 1984, Democrat Walter Mondale chose former New York Congresswoman Geraldine Ferraro.
McCain said the social conservative and mother of five is exactly who he needs.
