Gov. Riley: No evacuation for now

»  Comments | Post a Comment

MOBILE, Ala. - Alabama Gov. Bob Riley says no evacuation order is planned for now but Hurricane Gustav could change course before making landfall.

At a news conference Saturday in Mobile, he said people on the beach and in low-lying areas of coastal Alabama should remain alert and prepare to go if necessary. He says the state is putting out cots in shelters now to help any evacuees, including those traveling east from Louisiana and Mississippi.

Some 100 bus drivers are being assembled in Mobile County to assist evacuees there if necessary.

Riley says a decision will be made later on turning part of I-65 into a one-way north.
