A device containing radioactive materials is missing in Birmingham.
In a news release from the Alabama Department of Public Health, the Office of Radiation Control has been notified that an industrial gauging device containing radioactive materials was lost from a pickup truck in Birmingham.
The Troxler Model 3440 device contains two radioactive sources used in measuring density and moisture of compacted soil.
It’s a rectangular, yellow box that is labeled, “Caution Radioactive Materials.”
A $300 reward is offered for its return.
The item presents no significant hazard to the finder, until the lock is broken, and the sources are removed from the internal shield.
