James Parker Sr, 58, of Helena was identified by Jasper Fire and his wife. A sign on the truck indicated it belonged to J&K Construction of Hueytown. Parker's wife said the county school system had wanted the tower taken down, and her husband had been the one who originally put it in place.
Capt. Alan Clark of the Jasper Fire Department said "It appears they were moving that tower, taking that tower down. The crane line got against that electrical line and energized the truck".

Parker apprently touched the bumper of the truck, which was parked close to the east wall of the school, and he immediately went down. Other workers on the scene knew what had happened and pulled him away to a safe distance. A Jasper Fire crew responded initially and performed CPR on Parker and also kept others from the truck which was still energized.

Alabama Power crews arrived about a half hour later and cut off the lines, allowing firemen to safely come in and put out the burning truck.
