MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama has lost its title of "judicial
hellhole."
The American Tort Reform Association released its annual report
called "Judicial Hellholes" today. And Alabama wasn't cited in
the 49-page report. Alabama used to be a regular feature of that
report. But a spokesman for the association says the Alabama
Supreme Court has become a stabilizing effect by reducing or
throwing out big jury verdicts.
Governor Riley says the report is evidence that impressions
about Alabama have changed.
Tuscaloosa lawyer Bob Prince, the president of the Alabama
Association for Justice, says Alabama should be concerned about
coming off the list. He says Alabama's omission by the business
group makes it appear Alabama doesn't care about justice.
