MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Former lobbyist and landfill developer Lanny Young has been released early from federal prison. Young was a key witness at the trial of former Governor Don Siegelman and former HealthSouth Chairman Richard Scrushy.
Young got out December 11 after a federal judge ordered his two-year sentence reduced. Young had served about 11 months.
Federal prosecutor Louis Franklin says he recommended that Young be
released early because of harassment in prison and because he attempted to complete a substance abuse program, which had been a condition of any early release.
Young testified in the trial of Siegelman and Scrushy that he had an agreement to provide gifts to Siegelman in return for favorable government treatment.
