BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The candidate who finished a distant second in Birmingham's mayoral race is dropping his election challenge.
Attorney Patrick Cooper conceded the election today. He says the legal fight had gone on long enough.
County commissioner Larry Langford won the race without a runoff and has been serving as mayor more than a month. But Cooper filed a challenge of the election results.
A judge previously ruled against Cooper in a lawsuit claiming Langford didn't really live in Birmingham. Cooper held a news conference today to say he is ending an appeal of that decision.
