BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Birmingham's new mayor is off to a fast start.
On election night Larry Langford told NBC13 HD he would give Birmingham citizens the hardest working mayor they had ever seen.
Percy Hornbuckle has run his barbershop in downtown Birmingham for 51 years.
So, he's seen his share of mayors and their campaign promises.
He believes based on what he's seen so far, Lanford is keeping his word.
"I"ve seen some come and go, but nobody has worked as hard as Larry Langford has worked", Hornbuckle stated.
About a month into his term, Langford has wasted no time pitching proposals, and announcing plans to implement them.
Three days after being sworn in, he presented a package to fund a dome stadium among other city improvements.
Within three weeks, city council approved it.
Right now the city is about half way through Langford's plan to clean up 23 communities in 23 days.
Plus, Langford has agreed to purchase 15,000 laptop computers for Birmingham students.
Dr. Jessie Lewis has advised Birmingham mayors for three decades, including Langford.
He says the new administration needs to pace itself or it could overextend its resources.
"Sometimes you lay everything on the table than you've got to take mini-steps. That's one of Larry's, that's one of his faults, he can't take mini-steps", Lewis points out.
However Lewis believes Langford's blitz of ideas to improve Birmingham is second to none.
"He did more, faster than any other mayor in the history of this city. I think that's what his legacy will be. And I think that's what he wanted it to be", Lewis stated.
