GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A Georgia inmate granted a furlough to attend his father's funeral in northeast Alabama yesterday took off in a stolen van before the service began. Guntersville police said 48-year-old Robert Wallace Clifton, who was being held on a drug-trafficking charge in Fulton County, Georgia., was allowed to attend the funeral for his father, Robert "T.T." Clifton of Albertville.

Police Lt. Wayne Roden says officers arrived at Carr Funeral Home in Guntersville shortly before 4 p.m. yesterday and were approached by a woman crying.

The woman told officers that Clifton ca e to the funeral with one of his relatives, Andrew Dewayne Dean, of Rossville, Ga. Relatives didn't notice Clifton had left until they got ready to join the funeral procession and Dean couldn't find the keys to his maroon Dodge Caravan.

A search for Clifton continues.
