MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The State Ethics Commission has told Alabama Power that restrictions on gifts to public officials and employees apply even when a utility employee is giving something as a friend or neighbor.
Alabama Power's senior vice president, Mark Crosswhite, told the commission yesterday that questions had arisen when the utility's employees invite public employees or their immediate family on trips simply because they are friends. The commission, without dissent, voted that the law's restrictions on gifts still apply in those occasions.
Ethics Commission attorney Hugh Evans said the state law provides no exception.
