WASHINGTON (AP) - The annual reminder about the potential dangers from chimneys and space heaters is here.
The National Fire Safety Association says they accounted for tens of thousands of house fires and hundreds of deaths in 2005, the last year data was collected.
The association also points out that nearly half of all the fires in the home happen between December and February.
According to the safety experts, chimney fires usually happen because the chimneys are not properly cleaned. And space heaters often spark fires because they're left too close to things that can
easily ignite.
