With the inauguration of the first African American president in history, the United States will never be the same. Cruz won't remember a time before President Obama's term...although he'll probably remember little to none of his term. But the point is, a new generation of Americans will be born in a time when race will not be an obstacle to our dreams or an excuse for our problems.
As I've grown up in the South, I've noticed a distinct difference in the way I view people of all races compared to how my grandparents or even parents view race. With each generation we get closer and closer to living the "dream" Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke of in that historic speech. I feel like this is a new era we're entering into with President Barack Obama at the helm....an era that will catapult us all into a new world.
I'm not naive enough to think Obama will solve all social ills. There will probably always be racism and people who can see little past the color of someone's face. But I think the election of an African American will move us closer to that than we've ever been before. And it makes me excited for the world my son will inherit.
Take politics out of the picture. It doesn't matter whether you're a democrat or a republican, you can not deny the historic significance of this inauguration.
