Well, it had to happen eventually, right? Cruz got his first official spanking this weekend. It wasn't a "full-fledged spank the bottom" kind of spanking...it was a hand slap. But it looked and sounded really hard.
My husband administered the punishment. Not long after my son was born, I realized my husband, Gil, would have to be the heavy hand. I've always thought I was tough...but I just can't do it. (I know all you experienced moms out there are saying, "Give it time!".)
So what was the infraction? Cruz picked up a Sponge Bob umbrella and thwacked his cousin on the head...really hard! I don't think he meant to hurt her, he probably just thought it'd be fun. And I don't think Cruz knows his own strength. He is REALLY strong and he's a big boy. At 15 months he weighs about 31 pounds. He started off big...9 lbs 8 ozs at birth! (no I didn't have a c-section---UGH!)
Anyway, I wish you could've seen Cruz's face when his dad slapped his hand and said a loud and stern, "NO." First there was confusion...as if he didn't know if this was some kind of new game. Then when dad, or anybody else in the room for that matter, didn't laugh it changed to a flash of anger. Then it very quickly turn into a full, lower lip jutting out, kind of pout. The pout seemed to last forever before the lip started quivering and it changed into an "I can't believe you just hurt me" cry.
Of course, weak momma (me) immediately scooped him up and he actually clung to me and cried for a minute or two. All the while, I tried to explain to him that he shouldn't hit. Although at 15 months I don't know how much he really understood. He was playing with his cousin again in only a few minutes...smiling and giggling. He seemed to recover very quickly....at least quicker than me!
